Russian Business Network goes dark

A quick link from the UK register: Controversial Russian Business Network drops offline.

In a nutshell, Russian Business Netwrk (RBN) is a hosting company that offerred "bulletproof hosting" to spammers, malware distributors, phishing and other unsavory activites suddenly went off line around 0200 GMT yesterday. It is speculated that their upstreams, Tiscali.uk and C41 have pulled the plug, possibly because of a Washington Post expose written last month.

More on the story:
Meanwhile, Spamhaus speculates that the RBN is already setting up operations in China.

Not sure if you've heard about this, but its timing couldn't possibly be coincidental with these recent events.

The connection between Western Express's postal address of 555 8th Ave and the RBN network is neatly captured by F-Secure, who have a copy of the 2006 whois info for rbnnetwork.com here, and even more detailed in pages 31-36 of the RBN analysis here [pdf].

This is not just my research. There have been numerous stories about this particular setup, just not much investigation into whether they were related or not.
