University of Texas v LonghornSingles.com

The U.S. Supreme court has sided with the University of Texas against spammers. White Buffalo Ventures, which runs LonghornSingles.com had sued to force the university to accept their spam, arguing that since their spam complied with the CAN-SPAM act, that the University had no right to block it. The courts have ruled that the CAN-SPAM act does not pre-empt the university's policy.

This is a very important ruling, since one of the purposes of the CAN-SPAM act was to weaken state laws against spam. This ruling at least affirms the right of spam victims to protect themselves.
